Salary Details: This position may be filled at the higher level Civil Investigator 2 determined by experience and qualifications. Salary range for Civil Investigator 2 is $35,569/yr to $62,301/year. Position #00058198

Duties & Responsibilities: The mission of the Governorís Office of Consumer Protection is to protect Georgia consumers and businesses from unfair, deceptive and unlawful practices in the marketplace.

This position works within the Investigations Division of the Governorís Office of Consumer Protection (OCP). Under general supervision, the Civil Investigator 1 investigates allegations of unfair or deceptive practices involving consumer transactions and office supply transactions, allegations of fraud involving telemarketing, internet or home repair transactions, allegations of price gouging during a declared state of emergency, and allegations of unlawful conduct involving debt adjustment services, credit repair, advance fee loans, and other such issues. She/he operates with an in-depth knowledge of the GA Fair Business Practices Act and other laws and rules OCP administers.

The Civil Investigator 1 receives complaints and reviews allegations to confirm jurisdiction and potential violations. She/he mediates complaints; investigates cases; reviews documents; interviews complainants and other witnesses; drafts affidavits, subpoenas and investigative demands; testifies; gathers all other supporting evidence and prepares investigative reports. In the course of investigations, this position requires travel during the business day in the greater metropolitan Atlanta area and may require some overnight and statewide travel.

This position does NOT require P.O.S.T. certification.

Minimum Training & Experience: Bachelor's degree in a related field Or One year experience at the lower level or equivalent position (PSP080) Note: Some positions may require a valid driver's license Note: Some positions may require POST certification or eligibility

Agency Specific Qualifications and/or Preferred Qualifications: POSITION SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Valid Georgia Driverís License;
AND
Must be able to travel as required by the position (Please confirm your availability for travel with a statement in the comments section of the careers.ga.gov online resume).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Preference may be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the Minimum Qualifications, possess one or more of the following:

Experience working in an office environment.

Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret information and/or data and convert it into written reports.

Experience composing written correspondence, memos and e-mails, using good business English grammar, vocabulary, punctuation, and spelling, and ability to proofread own written material and correct mistakes.

Experience communicating information orally to customers in a tactful and professional manner, expressing ideas clearly and concisely.

Intermediate level experience in the use of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and MS Access or other database application performing word processing, internet searches, data entry, spreadsheet and report generation functions.

Experience making independent decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
