Duties & Responsibilities: General Job Description:
Under minimal supervision, directs and performs master journey-level work in the repair, maintenance, service, modification, troubleshooting, inspection and monitoring of the operation of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and associated plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and controls systems. Directs other classified staff in the areas as required to complete repairs in a timely fashion. This position carries statewide responsibilities, with overnight travel required on occasion. Must possess and maintain a universal refrigeration certificate. It is desired that applicants possess a minimum of five years verifiable commercial HVAC service and repair experience.
1 ? Troubleshoots, maintains, inspects, modifies and repairs heating, ventilation systems, air conditioning and refrigeration systems and equipment including DX and hydronic systems and components, screw, reciprocating and absorption chillers, cooling towers, fans and fan motors, pumps and pump motors, boilers and hot water vessels, electric controls and associated safety, over current and other equipment protection devices.
2 ? Evaluates preliminary mechanical design plans and specs for remodels, upgrades, replacements, or new construction and provides/reviews/approves control ?sequence of operation? for HVAC equipment to be incorporated into design plans and specs.
3- Responds to emergency and routine situations during and after regular hours for the purpose of resolving immediate concerns, by repair and/or service, or outside contractor as necessary. Reports emergency and failure conditions to the appropriate administrative staff, as directed.
4 ? Maintains and submits regular reports to include, travel, work tasks, materials used/needed, and others as directed. Computer skills are a must; most communications are via electronic media. Proficient in ?Word?, ?Excel?, and ?Oulook? desired.
5 ? Estimates materials for repairs and installations and makes requisitions through financial software.
6 ? Establishes and maintains good working rapport with all the various facilities throughout the state, through regular communications, via multiple methods, physical, verbal, and electronic means. Works in coordination with the regional engineers, to aid in the provision of reliable service of the various facilities HVAC equipment. Good communications skills (verbal and written) are required as this position interacts with multiple levels and sections within our department.
7 ? Monitors and directs the work performed by outside contractors for adherence to code and design performance.
8 ? Maintains appropriate service and repair records, to include date/time/materials/labor hours/actions taken or required/follow up needed, etc.
9- Provides excellent customer service in regards to both internal and external customers, in the delivery of both information and repair services. Assure quality control of services provided, as well as assure quality of service of subordinate employee.
10 ? Performs various other tasks as assigned.
Minimum Training & Experience: Bachelor's degree in a related field and one year of related experience Or Four years of related experience Or One year at the lower level or equivalent position (FEP041)
Agency Specific Qualifications and/or Preferred Qualifications: Completion of a degree in engineering at a four-year college or university.Ability to lead and direct other staff in the areas required to complete repairs on schedule. Ability to estimate materials for repair and installation and initiate requisitions through financial software. Ability to maintain service and repair records and respond to emergency and routine situations during and after regular hours.
