Job Description:

Position: Adjunct Nurse Aide/ PCT Instructor

Savannah Technical College is adjunct faculty for the nursing aide and patient care technician courses. The adjunct faculty member will provide theory and/or practical instruction to a level sufficient for students to develop the skills necessary to become employed in the healthcare profession. The position also requires the supervision of students during patient care.

Location: Savannah, Liberty, Effingham

Responsibilities:

• Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms, laboratories, and clinicals using appropriate teaching methods.
• Prepare lesson plans for classroom instruction for occupational courses
• Develop, manage, and teach classes, delivering instruction both individually and as a member of a team
• Develop and coordinate curriculum; conduct assessments of all courses taught in the department as requested
• Complete reports and request for information from internal and external departments and agencies
• Ensure compliance with accreditation standards of regional and national accrediting agencies
• Collaborate with colleagues on common curriculum areas
• Maintain knowledge of current trends and development in the field by attending staff development training, workshops, seminars, and conferences
• Follow policies/procedures of Savannah Technical College, to include standards for student-faculty professional relationships/interaction
• Communicate professionally and in a timely manner with college employees, students, community partners, and visitors
• Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse with a current active Georgia Nursing License in good standing with the Georgia Board of Nursing with one year of nursing experience. License cannot have the following status codes: probation, suspended, expired, lapsed, inactive, pending, renewal pending, revoked, or surrendered.
• Minimum two (2) years of nursing experience in health care within the preceding five (5) years.
• Must be flexible to teach day, or evening classes, or online courses
• Possess current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation
• Possess valid driver's license and proof of insurability

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience teaching adults and/or supervising students in a clinical setting
• Bachelor's degree or higher in nursing or in a health care related field from an accredited, post-secondary institution
• American Heart Association BLS and Heartsaver Instructor

Physical Demands

Teaching responsibilities are typically performed in a classroom/lab environment with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling for three (3) - four (4) continuous hours at a time. The employee frequently lifts/carries objects that weigh 10 lbs. or less. Clinical responsibilities are typically performed in a hospital, long term care facility, or other medical facilities and require that the employee stand/or walk for ten (10) - twelve (12) hours: bend, twist, push/and or pull for three (3) - four ( 4) hours; and occasionally lift 50 lbs. to 75 lbs. per rotation. The exposure to infectious diseases, gas, or fumes is possible during clinical rotations.
