Job Description:

POSITION: Campus Police Officer; Night Shift

LOCATION: Clarkesville, GA

DESCRIPTION: The Campus Police Officer performs a full range of assigned law enforcement duties to maintain security and order on a technical college campus.

Major Duties include:

  • Guard and monitor buildings and answer any alarms
  • Investigate criminal complaints, disturbances, and vehicle and other accidents
  • Coordinate with State Patrol and adjacent law enforcement jurisdictions
  • Apprehend criminal suspects and turn them over to local jurisdiction for booking or incarceration
  • Inspect assigned areas for fire or environmental hazards
  • Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against and maintain security of premises
  • Patrol premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates
  • Respond to fires, natural disasters, or other hazardous events
  • Warn persons of rule infractions or violations, and apprehend or evict violators from premises, using force if necessary
  • Write reports of daily activities and irregularities
  • Coordinate disaster response or crisis management activities such as opening shelters, special needs programs, and irregularities
  • Inspects equipment and facilities to determine their operational and functional capabilities
  • Collaborate with others to prepare and analyze damage assessments following emergencies
  • Escort or drive motor vehicle to transport individuals to specified locations and to provide personal protection
  • Direct traffic during special events and provide security for such occasions
  • Maintains Peace Officer Standards Training Certification
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • P.O.S.T certification

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of all pertinent Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations
  • Ability to identify signs of unlawful entry
  • Ability to patrol assigned areas
  • Ability to handle crisis situations according to established guidelines
  • Ability to complete reports according to establish guidelines
  • Ability to differentiate between colors
  • Ability to work holidays, nights, weekends, evenings, and/or morning shifts
  • Ability to work well with minimal supervision
  • Good decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent skills in interpersonal relations and dealing with the public
  • Above average verbal, written, and basic computer skills and/or knowledge
