Job Description:

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION: Coordinator of Distance Learning (Marietta)

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the Director for Distance Learning  the Coordinator will assist the college in its development and support of distance education by implementing and supporting instructional technology and cohesive services to support online students in coordination with existing student services; by supporting faculty and staff professional development, and by collaborating with faculty and staff in the design and implementation of the College’s distance education plan, policies, and procedures. The Coordinator for Distance Learning works with faculty and staff to promote distance education, alternative distance learning delivery methods, develop online courses and provide student and faculty support services in the areas of instructional design/ technology.

MAJOR DUTIES:

TRAINING SUPPORT

  • Provides training for instructors in the use and support of distance learning applications and software (i.e., LMS, helpdesk, and portal pages,). 
  • Provides workshops or webinars to faculty members on advanced features of the LMS such as adaptive release and reports.
  • Provides training and orientation to the students and staff on the LMS.
  • Establishes or helps instructors to create master courses and content templates to ensure consistency, reusability, and ease-of-use.
  • Works closely with faculty to assist with designing course content that takes advantage of the technology available for distance education. 
  • Develops training videos and other resources to aid faculty in developing and keeping abreast of the changes and technology in Bb.
  • Instructs college best practices, TCSG guidelines, SACS regulations, and federal policies in relation to Distance Education course design. 
  • Trains, assigns, directs, supervises, and evaluates the work of assigned personnel and/or FWS students where appropriate.

TECHNICAL SUPPORT

  • Assists in maintaining all courses, instructors, and students within the LMS.
  • Assist the Director of Distance Learning with behind-the-scenes report running and beginning- and end-of-term scripts.

COMMUNICATION

  • Communicates with all departments of the college regarding important information related to Distance Education. 
  • Prepares and distributes information for instructors and students on distance learning resources including course information, websites, resources, instructor training opportunities and student orientations. 
  • Assesses and coordinates with GVTC on any distance learning technological or educational needs and goals. 
  • Serves as the first-line of contact for all distance education trouble items.

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT

  • Assists in creating and maintaining websites and databases that support distance learning programs (i.e., helpdesk, and portal pages). 
  • Assists in managing and updating distance learning programs and courses each semester on the GVTC portal. 
  • Monitors and assists 3rd party publishers. If 3rd party publishers need additional assistance, contacts GVTC. 
  • Researches and works with GVTC on issues pertaining to distance education and helps identify promising practices. 
  • Works closely with the Webmaster to ensure students are able to reach all the resources necessary for their online courses.
  • Provides tools or reports to faculty members, administrators, or other parties as needed indicating students’ online performance and behavior.

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH

  • Monitors the GVTC websites and listserve for important information and updates. 
  • Attends peer group conferences and webinars to remain up-to-date on both instructional techniques and technology. 
  • Monitors the Blackboard Community website for best practices, issues and solutions that relate to Blackboard.
  • Investigates new distance education technologies to determine appropriateness for the needs of the college.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and two (2) years related work experience
    • Note: Experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience sufficient to understand thoroughly the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department to direct and coordinate work within the division/department, usually interpreted to require three to five years of related experience.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid driver’s license issues by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

SALARY/BENEFITS: $51,373.38 annually. Benefits include paid holidays, annual leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits Program. Please be aware that Chattahoochee Tech employees will be paid by direct deposit, unless exempted by the State Accounting Office based on “hardship” evidence provided by the employee.

TELEWORK: Position is authorized to telework up to sixteen hours/two days per week with supervisor approval.
