Job Description:

Position: Dental Hygiene Clinical Instructor

Savannah Technical College is seeking a part-time Dental Hygiene Clinical Instructor on the Savannah Campus. The individual will report to the Dean for Health Sciences and the Department Head of the Dental Hygiene Program. The part-time Dental Hygiene Clinical Instructor will be responsible for the following duties:

Responsibilities:

• Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms, laboratories, and clinicals using appropriate teaching methods.
• Evaluates instruction and learning by means of appropriate testing and/or evaluation methods.
• Maintains and submits accurate and current reports and records involving student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow-up.
• Coordinates cooperative work experience programs and students as assigned.
• Assist with completion of reports and requests for information from internal and external departments and agencies.
• Ensure compliance with dental hygiene accreditation standards of regional and national accrediting agencies.
• Collaborate with colleagues on common curriculum areas.
• Instruct students.
• Maintains a student-oriented approach to education
• Attends faculty and other meetings. as assigned.
• Is familiar with academic freedom and professional responsibility.
• Maintains a desirable and safe classroom, laboratory, and clinical conditions.
• Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by attending staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences.
• Follow policies/procedures of Savannah Technical College. to include standards for student- faculty professional relationships/interaction.
• Improves professionally and maintains currency in the courses taught by reading and utilizing materials found in trade, technical, and professional publications.
• Obtain and maintain certification and degree as required.
• Attend professional and specialty courses.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Georgia Dental Hygiene of Dentist Licensure in good standing with the Georgia Board of Dentistry.
• Associate's degree in Dental Hygiene of related field from an accredited, post-secondary institution.
• Must be flexible to teach day, evening, or weekend classes.
• Possess current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
• Possess valid driver's license and proof of insurability.
• Possess basic computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in dental hygiene or a related field from an accredited, post-secondary institution.
• Two (2) years clinical practice experience.
• Experience teaching adults and/or supervising students in a clinical setting.
• American Heart Association BLS and Heartsaver Instructor.

Physical Demands

Teaching responsibilities are typically performed in a classroom/lab environment with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling for three (3) - four (4) continuous hours at a time. The employee frequently lifts/carries objects that weigh 10 lbs. or less. Clinical responsibilities are typically performed in a hospital, long term care facility, or other medical facilities and require that the employee stand/or walk for ten (10) - twelve (12) hours: bend, twist, push/and or pull for three (3) - four ( 4) hours; and occasionally lift 50 lbs. to 75 lbs. per rotation. The exposure to infectious diseases, gas, or fumes is possible during clinical rotations.

Salary/Benefits  

Salary is commensurate with education and work experience.
