Job Description:

REPORTS TO:                      DIRECTOR OF COUNSELING AND STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES

 

SALARY RANGE:               Low $40’s annually, depending on qualifications and experience

OVERVIEW:                                                 

The Student Support Specialist provides operational assistance across programs within the Student Support Services Department that impact student engagement, retention, and success.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides administrative support to assist with service delivery.
  • Collects and compiles related data for Special Populations, Accessibility Services and Career Services departments.
  • Enters information from forms, records, and reports into BANNER and other designated data management systems, codes information accurately and consistently.
  • Administers and monitors accommodated testing for Accessibility Services, ensuring compliance with approved accommodations, secure testing environments, and proper documentation.
  • Assists with planning, coordination, and execution of major departmental events including the Annual Career Fair, Resource Fair, Campus Life events and other special projects or activities.
  • Manages student ID process; verifies student enrollment and identity prior to issuing ID; operates ID card equipment; maintains ID card supplies, equipment functionality, and secure handling of student information.
  • Assists in training and supervising work‑study students assigned to the department.
  • Will provide back-up front desk support to Receptionist one day per week to cover for lunch, breaks, appointments, etc.
  • Fosters a welcoming, student‑centered environment and communicates effectively with students, faculty, staff, and community partners.
  • Maintains confidentiality and compliance with FERPA and departmental policies.
  • Other work-related duties as assigned by Supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Associates degree from a regionally accredited college or university AND Three (3) years of related work experience, to include working with the public in a customer service environment.

 

TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to work flexible hours and maintain a 40-hour workweek, to include evenings and weekends on occasion;
  • Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs, i.e. Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Effective oral and written communication skills;
  • Effective organization and time management skills;
  • Effective skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: (in addition to minimum qualifications & technical qualifications)

  • Work experience using a student information system, such as Banner or a College CRM System.
  • Experience in event planning.
  • Proficiency in Spanish.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work is typically performed while sitting as a desk or table, or while intermittently sitting, standing, or walking.  Occasionally lifts light to medium weight objects. Work is typically performed in an office environment.

This position is also eligible for telework options, one day per workweek, after six (6) months of employment.
