Job Description:

Job Summary**

Serves as a front-line representative for the Department of Veterans Service, providing essential information, support, and advocacy to veterans and their families regarding available benefits and services.

Job Responsibilities**

* Interview veterans, their dependents, and survivors to determine eligibility for various federal, state, and local benefits.
* Assist veterans with the completion and submission of complex application forms and required documentation for benefits such as compensation, pension, healthcare, education, and housing.
* Research and interpret federal and state laws, regulations, and policies pertaining to veterans' benefits.
* Provide guidance and advocacy for veterans navigating bureaucratic processes and appealing benefit decisions.
* Maintain accurate and confidential records of veteran interactions and case progress.
* Collaborate with other government agencies, community organizations, and healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive support for veterans.
* Conduct outreach activities to inform veterans about available services and benefits.
* Represent the Department at community events, veterans' organizations meetings, and public forums.
* Provide crisis intervention and refer veterans to appropriate mental health or social services as needed.
* Stay current on changes in veterans' legislation, policies, and available resources.

Job Qualifications**

* Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, preferably in social work, public administration, counseling, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, and policies governing veterans' benefits.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) to effectively interact with veterans, their families, and other professionals.
* Ability to empathize with and understand the unique challenges faced by veterans.
* Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail for managing complex casework and documentation.
* Proficiency in using computer software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
* Valid driver's license and the ability to travel within a designated service area.
* Prior experience working with veterans or in a social service capacity is highly desirable.
* Must be a veteran or have a strong understanding of military culture and experiences.
