Job Summary:**
Serves as a Veterans Field Service Officer, providing comprehensive support and advocacy to veterans and their families, assisting them in accessing state and federal benefits.
Job Responsibilities:**
* Interviews veterans, their dependents, and survivors to determine eligibility for various state and federal benefits, including but not limited to compensation, pension, healthcare, education, and burial benefits.
* Provides guidance and assistance in completing complex application forms and gathering necessary supporting documentation.
* Acts as a liaison between veterans and various governmental agencies (e.g., Department of Veterans Affairs, Social Security Administration) to facilitate benefit claims and resolve issues.
* Researches and interprets relevant laws, regulations, and policies pertaining to veterans' benefits.
* Represents veterans in appeals processes, preparing and presenting arguments on their behalf.
* Conducts outreach activities to inform veterans and their families about available services and benefits.
* Maintains accurate and confidential records of client interactions and case progress.
* Stays current on changes in veterans' benefit programs and related legislation.
Job Qualifications:**
* Two years of experience in counseling, social work, human services, or a related field; OR two years of military service experience with significant exposure to veteran benefits and services.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to empathize with and effectively assist veterans from diverse backgrounds.
* Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
* Proficiency in interpreting complex regulations and policies.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.
* Preference may be given to honorably discharged veterans.
