Are you a caring person looking to make a difference in the lives of people with serious mental illness? The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is looking for team members to support our patients.
In this role, you will work closely with doctors and nurses in a hospital setting. You will care for adults who live with severe mental illness, past trauma, impulse control issues, and trouble getting along with others. You will help them stay safe, learn daily skills, and feel supported on their path to recovery and transition to the community.
What You Will Do
Caring for Patients
• Help patients with basic daily needs like bathing, dressing, eating, and moving around.
• Take vital signs (like blood pressure) and help prepare patients to see the doctor.
• Help patients practice positive social skills and self-care routines.
• Lead fun group activities, like games or crafts, to help patients interact with others.
• Walk with or drive patients to appointments and campus activities.
Keeping Everyone Safe
• Watch patient areas carefully to keep everyone safe and prevent fights or injuries.
• Check new patients for items that are not allowed on the unit to keep the hospital safe.
• Help calm patients down when they are upset or having a hard time controlling their actions.
• Write down notes about patient progress and behavior in the computer system.
• Talk with doctors, nurses, and counselors as a valuable member of the care team.
What You Need to Apply
Preferred Experience:
• Two years of experience caring for people in a hospital, nursing home, group home, or similar care setting.
• Experience working with people who have mental health conditions, trauma, or behavioral challenges.
• Ability to stay calm and kind during stressful situations.
Job Details
• Shifts: This role will work night shift.
• Background Check: State law requires a full criminal background check and drug screen before you start.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma/GED and six (6) months of experience in a related field; one (1) year of experience required at the lower-level Health Aide 1 (HCS020) or position equivalent.Equal Employment Opportunity Employer
